"Awesome has replaced incredible, good and even just OK. Pretty much everything that isn't terrible is awesome." ~David Sedaris

Dress: Sommer Draped Dress from Igigi

Cardigan: Avenue

Shoes: Ariat

Bracelet: Vintage

Earring: etXarte

Necklace: Age Before Beauty

I wore this lovely dress on Monday to work and to see David Sedaris. Confession: I bought this dress from Igigi back in April as a birthday present to myself and to wear on my birthday. This is the first time I've worn it. See, I have this thing I do...not just with clothing...but with a lot of things...I save them "for good." Whatever that means. I actually have Gwynnie Bee to thank for finally saving this dress from languishing eternally in my closet. What was I waiting for?! The cut of this dress was sooooo flattering  that I wish I had this in several other prints. Also, I LOVE paisley.
Kate was wearing this geo print dress from Love Squared via Gwynnie Bee (that she has since purchased) when I picked her up this day...but I also included another picture of her wearing it on a different occasion to show off the back and cute boots.
I feel I am not doing this dress justice with these photos as it had been 8 hours and 15 hours since applying my make-up & leaving the house for the day...I look tired. BUT, I needed to have my picture taken next to these octopi after the show that was part of an art exhibit at The Overture (look! they're friends!).
David Sedaris was funny, as usual. We never miss him when he comes to town, but I have to admit...I prefer the way Super Boo reads his stories. He does better voices.

Fun On A Fall Day

Dress: Ippolita Dress in Papaya from Igigi via Gwynnie Bee (click link to get a free month & help me earn a free month)
Cardigan: Avenue
Cape: Avenue
Socks: Sock Dreams
Shoes: Dansko
Necklace: Vintage
Earring: etXarte
The girlie & I went to Pie Palooza on Sunday, which is an annual event that we've been attending for years. There are many sweet & savory pies that have been donated & made by area chefs using local ingredients. The proceeds support REAP Food Group programs, which promote the inclusion of healthy, local, sustainably grown foods in schools, restaurants, food stores, & home kitchens. Both of us care about those things, but...PIE!
Between the 2 of us, we had: Tomato & Winter Squash Pie (the galette looking piece on the left) from Deb's Lunch; Honey Lavender Pie from Mermaid Cafe (on the right); Caramelized Onion, Mushroom, & Montrachet Pie from Lilliana's; Chocolate Vanilla Custard Pie from Harvest; & 2 mini quiches that we shared from Water House in Leek, Potato, Rosemary & Pumpkin Wild Rice. All the pie was delicious. Duh. In looking at the list of pie's from that day, I wonder...WHY?! did we not have Smoked Duck Confit & Fruit Pie available during our seating?! Tragic.

After Pie! we took pictures in the park next to Kate's house. I LOVED the color of this dress from Igigi, but did not love the shelf under the neckline created by the lining underneath. The sun was shining so brightly, so high in the sky, that it made it difficult to take photos. But...Girlies Riding A Hippo!
As we were getting to the park, a man & his son were walking away with a rake. He had raked a pile of leaves for his son to play in which Kate flopped down into to bask in the sun.
Kate is wearing a dress by NY Collection via Gwynnie Bee, which has another printed panel in the back of the dress.
In the evening, the girlie & I drove to Spring Green to see our last play of the season at American Players Theatre, Les Liaisons Dangereuses. The necklace I originally picked out to wear to pie did not work out because of its length, so at night I chose to double this long necklace & attach a ribbon to tie it together & pinned this brooch onto the chain.

Blowing in the Rain

Top: Rosalie Wrap Top from Kiyonna via Gwynnie Bee (click link to get a free month & help me earn a free month)
Skirt: Vintage Silk Sari from Enwrapture Vintage
Sandals: Dansko
Umbrella: Brown Pagoda from Bella Umbrella
Pin & Bracelet: Vintage
Necklace & Earring: Babil & Bijou
Photography: Super Boo & Me
I wore this outfit to work on a warm (60s), but very rainy & windy autumn day. I loved the sweetheart neckline on this incredibly comfortable top, but felt it was a bit long.

Kate & I discovered Bella Umbrella last year on a trip to Seattle. They had soooo many amazing umbrellas...the window display was of the pagoda umbrellas in various colors...but I decided to use this photo below because DOTS! I had forgotten about these...also, you can see in the background that the entire shop has marvelously printed umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a room in your house decorated with an umbrella collection where you could lounge in a fainting couch below & admire their colorful beauty? I would like that.
By the time I got home, I had taken off the bracelet but I took a picture of it anyway...

It was only in the 50s on Monday when I wore this outfit to work, but I couldn't find any socks that I thought went with this already very colorful outfit. And shoes?! I just didn't have anything that would work...and I ran out of time...so sandals it was! I found these shoes online & I think if I owned them, they would have went nicely...with purple or red stockings?
I really really LOVE red & orange together! It makes me happy. A friend told me once that orange is the color of fun. It's true. I am quite fond of this top, but it was a bit low cut for work. I need to get myself some tie tacks like Kate uses to make her outfits more work safe. The ruching, the kimono sleeves, & the v in back all made this a flattering top that I am considering buying. It is difficult to find cute shirts to wear with the 50+ sari wrap skirts I have & I thought this one was perfect.
Kate is rocking an adorable shirt from Gwynnie Bee from NY Collection. I loved the red/black tiger stripes & the buckle on the side.

Pumpkin Massacre

Dress: Patricia Maxi Dress from Igigi via Gwynnie Bee (click link to get a free month & help me earn a free month)

Shirt: Angel Shirt from Love Your Peaches

Socks: Sock Dreams

Shoes: Liz Claiborne

Necklace & Earring: Age Before Beauty

Photography: Super Boo & Me
This is my least favorite outfit I've posted on here. I like my jewelry though, and the pumpkins. This dress was a bit tight on me despite it being in my usual Igigi size (26/28). I was also not a fan of the way the top fit, it shifted around a lot and the waist hit me in a weird spot...it was supposed to be an empire waistline and it hit me closer to my waist. The length was strange too. Not a hit for me. Kate wore this dress last week too and it was not great on her either. But...pumpkins!
We went to our friend's Angie & Toby's house on Saturday evening  for squash massacre & dinner. Here is what we created.

Experiments in Pattern Mixing

Leggings: Lace Trimmed Leggings from Roamans

Shoes: Liz Claiborne

Necklace: Babil & Bijou

I wore my experiment in pattern mixing outfit to work and to get my hair cut. Yay! Hair cut! I always wait until I am desperate before finally calling to make an appointment. You would think I'd know by now that Gen's first available opening is going to be at least 2 weeks out. I called that same week for an appointment with my doctor and she had 1 available slot left the next day. I'm not sure what my point is, except that I was *not* desperate to get in to see my doctor.

Waaaay back in high school, I didn't follow any fashion rules. I wore a lot of vintage & thrift store clothing and I had my own style of throwing things together...nothing had to match. But as I got older & fatter, I put more fashion rules in place for myself. I suspect it had more to do with the fat than the age. I never stopped wanting to look good, but clothes were no longer fun. When I look at other fashion blogs...I notice unique accessories & pattern mixing are what catches my eye the most. But still I have this voice in my head telling me fat chicks can't pattern mix without looking ridiculous. And that's just silly. So, that is how my experiment in pattern mixing came to be...

Lady in Red

Shoes: Ariat

Necklace: Vintage

Earring: Babil & Bijou

I wore this dress to work and then to a play with Super Boo. I felt confident & sexy in this red wrap dress. Isn't it a gorgeous shade of red?! The first dress I got from Gwynnie Bee was this same dress from Kiyonna, but in black with white polka dots...I loved it so much I bought it. Kate & I were both going to buy it, but she changed her mind and bought it in red instead. Now I want it in red too!
