I wore this lovely lace frock to walk all over Chicago (5 miles, which is much more than I move on a normal day), catch the el, swoon over the Edward Gorey exhibit at LUMA, as well as eat dinner and be captivated by Johnette Napolitano at City Winery. I absolutely adore these lace dresses from Kiyonna. I wore the burgundy one back in January to see Zoe Keating perform. I normally wear a 4x in this brand, but prefer this dress in the 5x as it is quite form fitting. It is comfortable & the neckline shows the perfect amount of cleavage. This dress is splendid, however, if I could change one thing...it would be to have a lining that is not nude...red would be stunning.
Edward Gorey!! LUMA had 2 exhibits of the works of Mr. Gorey. So exciting! It was completely amazing to see his gorgeous illustrations in person...I especially enjoyed this early drawing of what would later become The Gashlycrumb Tinies...
I also loved the wonderfully illustrated envelopes that he sent his letters to his mother in & another letter to a friend where he states how tired he is of drawing wallpaper. And this Thoughtful Alphabet...
I would love to go again before the exhibit leaves Chicago. Kate with cats & an appropriate black/white/grey dress...
that also matches the wallpaper in her favorite hotel...
Tragically, Hotel Allegro is in the midst of remodeling & they've already taken down some of this marvelous wallpaper...
As beautiful as the hotel is...the lighting is flattering, & therefore horrible for taking photos...
Gorgeous elevator doors...
Kate outside City Winery...
Johnette Napolitano! Kate & I saw her perform in Madison several years ago, but this had an entirely different feel to it. She published a book last year of stories & memories & in-between songs she read from it. She has a wonderfully sparkling personality & I enjoyed the intimacy her stories gave to the show. My 2 favorite anecdotes were her telling of how Marc Moreland (Wall of Voodoo) asked her if Joey was about him (yes) & a night she spent in The Driskill Hotel in Austin (her room was haunted by the Ghost of a Texas Ladies' Man).
What a perfectly lovely day spent with my girlie!

  1. I saw you post something on Instagram about Edward Gorey, and I hoped you were going to do a post! I think you're dressed as a perfect Wednesday Adams for the occasion. Edward Corey and the like have a special place in my heart after I taught a class on the macabre. We looked at a lot of artists and authors I wasn't familiar with beforehand, and I had such fun trekking through delightfully darker, creepier stuff. I love his ABC book the best. Such a fun twist on the alphabet. No "A is for Apple" from him!

    1. Thank you!! I LOVE Edward Gorey and I felt so very lucky to be able to see this exhibit. What fun that you got to teach a class on the macabre! What other artists & authors stood out to you?
